Ah, but now all the young boys out there that will (or have) purchase(d) Volume 16 will learn the truth. I wonder how the popularity of YGO will fare after that, and what all those mothers out there will think. xD

That, or "I really like you" was what I was thinking. But Shonen Jump... They're full of surprises. Maybe they're beginning to realise how large the slash fandom of YGO is, and how many teen-aged to 20-something women out there love YGO. Or maybe we just got lucky.

In the original Japanese, Yuugi says (I'm not sure of the exact) "Daisuki-yo", or something like that, so Janime.info translated it to "I love you" in their scanlations (if I remember correctly).

He says it in the anime too- so what did they have him say in the dub? Didn't see that episode (and I only watched the Ceremonial Duel after I really got into Yuugiou, anyway).
But! Finally, all of the poor YGO fanboys out there will be forced to acknowledge the gay. (Or not, but we can still hope, y'know.) Thanks for the scan, [info]lavaliere!

I've heard (not understanding much Japanese myself) that the original statement is a little linguistically more complex and "grey" than we might have here, but given what this translation does suggest--I'm really, and happily, surprised that they used it/kept it in.

AHAHAHAHA! Love that scene! The first time I saw it(using anime with subtitles), I used to eat lunch with this group of extremely straight guys who liked YGO. I brought that scene to their attention and they all choaked.

our local channel did not bother changing the original Japanese meaning... so I was totally all O__O at the screen when Yugi cried, "I LOVE YOU JOEY!" (in our language)... my nephews were shocked lol!

In the original japanese manga, Yugi did shout "Suki da yo, Jounouchi-kun!" which pretty much translates to "I Love you Jounouchi~".. of course, Takahashi-sensei meant /as friendss/ but fangirls like to look at it differently. XD

So if Yugi is with Jounouchi, then.... **thinks of prideshipping all too suddenly lol**

The sad thing is, as I'm reading that my brain just keeps on going.

Yuugi, "I love you Jounouchi."

Yuugi randomly turns into Yami.

Yami snaps his fingers and points to the ground. "Now on your knees and do as your told."
